CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2019) by Urizen

Given I had other writing I wanted to do, and lack of knowledge on the subject, I had never intended to write up a review for Charlie's Angels. I never watched the original series, didn’t watch the remade movies, never played the games, so nothing really made me care enough about it. Once the first trailer came out for this one and I gave it a chance though, I absolutely wanted to see it. Something about it felt different. It felt better. So now here we are, with me watching it opening night.

Charlie’s Angels is seemingly a continuation of the original series and films. No longer just a single group, the Townsend Agency has grown into a much larger, international organization. Multiple teams of angels, guided by multiple Bosleys carry out various missions all over the globe. The movie follows two particular angels, Sabina (Kirsten Stewart), and Jane (Ella Balinska) as they must work together when a young scientist named Elena (Naomi Scott) blows the whistle on an energy saving device that she was working on, one that could be turned into a deadly weapon. Joined by their Bosley (Elizabeth Banks), the group must work together to stop the project from getting into the wrong hands and finding out who is behind the ordeal.

This movie is surprisingly really fun. While some of the jokes can fall a bit flat, and it has a bit of predictability to it, for the most part it stayed consistently entertaining. Even with the predictability, there were a couple unexpected moments.

I think one major thing I have to talk about in this review though is Kristen Stewart. Since Twilight, she has the same situation as Robert Pattinson, where everyone assumes she is a terrible actress. I always figured she had it in her. Unfortunately, no matter how much we see it as a joke now, Twilight was insanely popular. Casting crews knew it was making money, so they wanted her to do more of the same for other movies. Now as time has gone on, Stewart has been able to break away and show she can really act. I really want to say she was my favorite part of the movie. I’m happy that in the recent years, we have started to get a taste of what she really can do.

The rest of the cast is great too. I had first seen Naomi Scott in Power Rangers, which I liked her in. As time has gone on, I have seen her in a bit more and she continues to impress. Then Ella Balinska is an actress that I have honestly never heard of. She hasn’t been in much, with this being her biggest role it seems. She was actually really good, and is someone I look forward to seeing more of. I also think it is worthCha mentioning that Elizabeth Banks and Patrick Stewart killed it. It is rare to find something that they have done a terrible job in.

All in all, this movie is very enjoyable and a lot of fun. While it is predictable and has some jokes not land like they should,  it does have a great cast, good action, and a better view of feminism compared to the previous movie series. From the bits and pieces I have seen and heard about the previous movies,  it really takes it all and improves on it in every way. I definitely think that if you are wanting a fun action flick with some strong female representation,  this is for you.  I really hope for a sequel to this sp I can see what else the angels have to offer.

AVENGER ENDGAME - Spoiler Free by Urizen

AVENGER ENDGAME SPOILER FREE By Urizen 11 years ago Marvel released Iron Man and with that started one of the greatest cinematic universes of all time. With now 22 movies, the MCU has helped shape the super hero movie genre and has created not only what would be considered amazing super hero movies, but just great movies in general. Since the release of the first Avengers movie, we have been building up to this movie. Ever since that tease of Thanos, we all knew something big was coming. By the end of Infinity War, we got it. The stakes were higher than they had ever been. Naturally after all of this, expectations for Avengers Endgame were so high. I was a bit worried. I had a feeling it would be great, but I worried that everyone’s expectations were almost too high. Boy was I wrong. This movie absolutely exceeded all of that. Avengers Endgame may be the best Avengers movie and maybe the best MCU movie so far. It was to the point that even for a three hour long...

MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL by Urizen

Here come the Men in Black! I have gone back and forth on this franchise’s future for years now. Rumors and plans have been thrown around for a while, including a weird 21 Jump Street crossover (dodged a bullet there), yet nothing had really came to fruition until recently when we got the announcement for Men In Black International. My hope continued to grow more and more as it was announced that Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth would be starring in it. The two worked great together in Thor Ragnarok and both are great at acting, so it had to be good. As the trailer came out, it seemed like an interesting twist, but also kept the same feel of the original series. As usual though, the reviews came, and I grew worried. I didn’t know what I was getting into.    Men In Black: International deals with Thompson's Agent M, who as a child rescued an alien that had broken into her house while being chased by the MIB. While her parents got neuralized and forgot th...

SHAZAM by Urizen

Well here we go, after one Captain Marvel, we jump right into another with Shazam. Shazam is another character I am sad to admit I'm not terribly familiar with. I have seen him more often in supporting roles over time such as in Young Justice and the Injustice comic series. I know he is a young boy named Billy Batson who receives power from a wizard named Shazam. Upon saying the name, he is struck by a bolt of lightning and transforms. Shazam (the hero) has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and finally the speed of Mercury. Beyond that all I really know is that one of his main foes is Black Adam, who will eventually be played by Dwayne Johnson. Leading up to this gave me about the same feeling I had when going into Captain Marvel. There's this excitement of not knowing much about the character and getting truly introduced to them with them being front and center.   Obviously with DC's...
